One of a couple of spoof spy films, the others include the Derek Flint films (In Like Flint, Our Man Flint). It tries to and succeeds in sending up the whole spy film category. Michael Myers plays a multitude of characters from Austin Powers to Dr. Evil and Fat Bastard.
Like the Bond Series, there is a leading lady, different one in each film. Dr. Evil is a send up of Ernst Stavro Blofeld from the Bond film, "You Only Live Twice."
Unlike Bonds films, the main terrorist has a few domestic problems with his son, Scott Evil who was conceived whilst Dr Evil was trying out Austin's Mojo. Non-Bond Films also get a nod such as Empire Strike Back in the second film. The Bond producers were annoyed that they were
taking the mick out of the films too much with one of its titles. The second film 'The Spy Who Shagged Me', a play on the title 'The Spy Who Loved Me' got the Bond producers backs up. |
