Character Profile | | Q is the Quartermaster of James' gadgets. In the first film, Dr. No, we are introduced to him as Major Boothroyd who gives Bond his new gun a Walther PPK. Q has appeared in one form or another in every film except 'Live and Let Die'. The producers wanted to move away from gadgets but there was an outcry from the fans and he was reinstated. No one will be more remembered as Q than Desmond Llewelyn whose last film was 'The World is Not Enough.' His replacement was John Cleese who was first introduced as R before stepping into Q's shoes in 'Die Another Day'. He turns up around the world when needed to hand James his weapons. In 'Licence to Kill', Q turns up in Isthmus. In 'Tomorrow Never Dies', he turns up as an Avis employee giving Bond his phone and car. He has more tolerance for Bond's humour than M but still finds it tedious. He won't be in 'Casino Royale' because he doesn't appear in the book. |
