In Thunderball, all the agents appear but we don't see their faces. He was born a Lienz Cossack, who were betrayed by the British Government at the end of the Second World War. An orphan, the British Government recruited him as a spy. He carried out business on behalf of the Government before being killed when sent to destroy the Arkangel complex in Siberia. He reappeared when James was sent to investigate the destruction of the Severnaya Satiellite Station. James comes up against him when he discovers that 006 is head of the Janus crime syndicate based in St. Petersburg. Alec tries to kill James but fails. They face off once more in Cuba.
